I think this is due to the recent facebook security problem where they logged everyone out. When I go to the module on Joomla I have an error "Error validating access token. The session has been invalidated because the user changed their password or Facebook has changed the session for security issues". No other settings are visible.
I noticed that my facebook app (on developers.facebook.com) was not enabled. (was set as "in development" instead of "live". I went to go live, it wouldn't let me. Needed to add a link to our privacy policy. Its live now - yet the events are still not updating.
I'll try to create an entire new module/application and see if that solves it later today.
